Thursday 6th March, please come dressed in your pyjamas and bring in your favourite bedtime story to share with us.

Thursday 13th March, preschool will be visted by a librarian.

Chinese New Year Celebrations – February 2014

February 5, 2014 by Bethan

The children have been very busy celebrating the Chinese new Year. Sarah from Shake, Rattle and Groove visted and the children joined in a Chinese Dragon Procession! There has been lots of food tasting taking place, the children have had the opportunity to try Dragon Fruit, Lychees, Chinese Noodles and lots of other delicious treats. The children also had great fun getting messy with ‘Noodle Play’! We were delighted to welcome the Babies and Tots group who joined in with the food tasting for a morning and we all learnt about China and the giving of money wallets by one of our Mums Lei Wen. The children also learnt how to write ‘good Luck’ in Chinese calligraphy. Burley Gate Pre-School wishes everyone a Happy New Year!

Autumn Term 2013

September 6, 2013 by Bethan

Welcome back!

The children have all settled back into Pre-school after the Sunny Summer Hols.

The children have been happily involved in activities centred around their requested theme of transept. They have travelled far in the role play corner! Its amazing how a cardboard box and a steering wheel can create so many scenarios.

We will be harvesting our own crop as our veg garden has produced marrows, corvettes, runner beans and apples providing ample cooking opportunities for the children. The blackberries didn’t quite make it to the kitchen for some reason!

Parents – please come in and share your skills with us – storytelling, baking, music and dance skills all welcomed.

End of term is near

July 2, 2013 by Bethan

We are almost at the end of the Summer term and we will soon be saying goodbye to some of our children as they head on up to Primary School. The children who will attend Burley Gate Primary School will be getting a taste of primary school life when they attend for two mornings on the last week of term, followed by our leavers’ party at Play Planet on 16th July.

We are looking forward to our preschool outing to Newbridge Play Barn next week, so lets hope we have some good weather.

Finally, as a result of our recent Ofsted inspection we are delighted that our Early Years Provision was given a ‘good’ rating under the new Early Years Framework introduced in September 2012.

Summer’s here!

May 3, 2013 by Bethan

Fingers crossed the weather will be kind to us so we can extend more activities to outside. We would like the children to grow vegetables in the garden so any donations of seeds, plants will be gratefully received.

This term we will continue the transitions to school. Miss Calvert from Burley Gate Primary School will be visiting the children at preschool and the children will go up to school most wednesday afternoons. The children have been separated during the morning so as to concentrate on letters and sounds with the older children and encourage communication and language with the younger ones.

A warm welcome to our new preschool friends and their families. As this is the term where numbers attending sessions at preschool are rising due to preparing the school leavers for transition and new enquiries are already coming in for two year olds, if you would like to increase your child’s attendance or enrol your child, please let us know as soon as possible.

Fashion show tickets are on sale at the pre school £5 each

The committee continue to find ways to raise funds to maintain the building, provide equipment and pay for the children’s outings to the courtyard. We really need your help and support. Helpers are needed at the Fundraising Bingo evenings, and donations of Bingo prizes e.g. Household items, cleaning materials, tea, coffee, alcohol, chocolates, toiletries are always welcomed. Please help if you can.

Have fun in the sun!

Summer term begins

April 17, 2013 by Bethan

Whilst waiting for signs of spring the children have been happy to be outdoors preparing the vegetable beds, helping with the gardening, enjoying going for walks and looking at the bulbs and buds appearing. We have had lots of donation from parents of bird seed, a new bird feeding station and bird box so the children have continued to watch the birds in the garden. There’s been lots of activity with Blue Tits and Great Tits starting to make a nest in the bird box and we’re helping the children to keep a diary log of their observations.

Concentrating of healthy eating and the importance of exercise we have been lucky to have Ruth in from Hereford’s Dynamix Dance for the last few months teaching the children some new moves and how to have fun whilst keeping fit.

Earlier this month the preschool celebrated World Book Day with dressing up and lots of activities to encourage looking at books.

Preschool is a registered charity and we very much appreciate the community’s support in attending our fundraising events. Our Bingo nights are popular and  the next one will be held at Ashburton Village Hall on Wednesday 24th April. The next one, 14th May will be held at Burley Gate Village Hall.

Thank you to all that have supported/attended the Macmillan fundraising coffee morning. So far £500.82 has been raised.

Numbers attending sessions at Preschool are rising and enquiries are already coming in for September. If you would like to enrol your child please contact the preschool on 01432 820425.

Here’s a date for your diary – we are holding a Fashion Show on Saturday 18th May, 7Pm at Burley Gate Village Hall. Tickets are on sale now.

Spring Term

January 25, 2013 by Bethan

The Pre-school would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and welcome back to Pre-school.

So far this term the children have been looking at how solids can change to liquids and vice versa. The recent snow gave us the perfect opportunity to explore this. The children are also looking at garden birds. Donations of bird seed would be gratefully received.

During the week of 28th Jan we will be having some French activities and have been invited by the school to join them for their French Breakfast morning on Friday 1st Feb. Parents are welcome to join us.

On the 9th February there will be a Tabletop sale  at the Village Hall. Please come along and show your support.
